How long is the period between transportation of hermit crab shells?

How long does it take for a hermit crab to change shells?

Have two, never had them before so I have no idea. Please help.

It depends on the crab. Sometimes, they will change often. I have one who for a long time changed shells daily, until she finally settled on one she likes. She hasn't changed since.

More often than not, though, they won't change shells unless they are outgrowing one, or getting too large for it. When they molt, they actually shrink for a while, too, so they might transfer to a smaller shell.

Make sure the shells you have are size appropriate to the crabs. You should have at least 3 per crab- 1 smaller, 1 the same size, and 1 bigger.

Don't toss any that someone has already used. Just clean it with dechlorinated water, and put it back in.
i dont know stick a larger shell next to him and he willchange
my hemit crabs never stayed out of their shells for more than a few seconds.

they would examine the new shell thououghly then position themselves next to it and slip out of the old and right into the new.

when they are out of their shells they are obviously very vulnerable.
their little pink bodies are so funny looking so keep a close watch so you can get a peek. i used to keep numerous shells in the tank for for my three crabs and they would switch all the time.

when the oldest one died he stayed out of his shell and pretty much buried himself in the corner of the tank for some reason.
