How do you potty train two ferrets?

Answers:
my aunt has some, and this how she did it.

every time her ferret tried to go out of its cage (she was right there trying to potty train it) she held it up to her face and said, "NO". she did that 3 times and then it went in its cage. maybe she had the special touch or something.maybe you will too! i bet you do, any ferret lover should. I LUV FERRETS AND I'M GLAD YOU DO TOO!
My ferret never or should I say tried as of yet to go potty outside ofhis cage..though took some time to litter box train him! If you need to potty train him to use the litter box then, get a cat litter box (you may have to cut down the side a bit) one big enough to cover most of the bottom of the cage, that way he/she has no choice but to go in the box. Never use kitten/cat litter! Though if your ferrets are going potty outside of your cage, when they bout to "go" pick them up and scrurry them over to thier cage and place them in and let them go in there.keep that up and eventually they will get the idea..hope this was of some help to you..its great that you love ferrets! Many people think they are ugly n stinky!
You need litter boxes inside and outside of the cage, if you let them run, I hope you do. At first the ferret won't know what the litter box is for, it'll think it's a nifty digging box or a new place to sleep. So wait until it poops somewhere and scoop the poop into the litter box and leave it there for the rest of the day. The ferret will get the message then. Cover all other floor surfaces with bedding(I use old t-shirts, I have lots of them, they're washable and ferrets love sleeping and burrowing in them). Then put water bottles in some corners of the cage and food bowls in others. Ferrets won't usually poop where they eat or sleep. Watch your ferrets when they wake up. Most ferrets will have to go within minutes of waking up. You see them backing up with their tail held high, it's time. If they are not IN their box, say "NO" and put them in the box. Praise them if they go, better luck next time if they don't. Never hit your ferret. It'll make the animal associate the human hand with pain and ferrets are easily hurt due to their slight built.
Don't let your ferrets out of the cage until they have went in the box. Make sure they actually did something while in the box. They are smart and will FAKE it, just to get out of the cage. Watch the corners they want to use in the room and put litter boxes in those corners. I have mine trained, but there is one spot on the floor they will still try to use. It's right by the door of the room and I think it's partly a marking behaviour since this is where all the strange and new smells enter their little world. In order to save my carpet I started putting paper down all around that area. I get the Classifieds and AutoTraders that you can find for free at gas stations, grocery stores and Walmart exits. I still keep an eye on them and try to grab them before they go on the paper, but if I miss it, at least my carpet is safe.
There is a difference in litter boxes. Some ferrets prefer corner ones, and others like the bigger square ones that will hold the entire ferret. You'll have to experiment with that. Litter boxes can get expensive at the pet store, but if you go to www.ferret.com you can get a decent price on all kinds of supplies. They used to waive the shipping fee on first time customers too. Make sure you're using the right kind of litter as well. Mine really like Yesterdays News or Marshall brand litter. Lots of other litters are not good for them, like the clumping kinds and most wood based ones.
Good luck with your ferts, hope things work out for you.
PS: Learn as much as you can, join a group online or in your area and read "Ferrets for Dummies". It's a good book full of great info.
Take care!
Ferrets will almost always "potty" in a corner. When they pick their corner- that is where you want to put the litter box. They make corner litter boxes, that have a higher edge for the corner- this is best for the cage, a regular kitty litter box is fine for a room. When the ferret "goes"- scoop/pick it up and put it in the litter box. Best to then put things in the other corners of the room, such as food and water, bedding, etc- so they won't be tempted to use a different corner. Also, if you have a mulit-level cage- use the whole bottom level for the potty area- if possible. Makes life much easier. You can also use newspaper or the lined puppy pads for the corners of a room- but that is more training you than your ferret. Make sure you keep food, water, bedding away from the area you want your ferret to use as the bathroom! When your ferret is running loose in the room- watch it! When you see him (or her), backing up with tail in the air- pick him up and put him in the litter box. If you keep up with these things, most ferrets can be litter trained. Good Luck!
PS: make sure when you get litter for the box, that you DO NOT get clumping litter- dangerous for the ferret- he could eat it and cause a bowel obstruction. Also- fancy, smelly stuff is not best. Just your basic, generic kitty litter is fine.
