My old guinea pig would not chew her wood sticks, i bought lots of different kinds. Her teeth eventually grew very long, she had jaw prolbems, eye prolbems, had surgery, and was eventually put to sleep- she was starving. Now i have a dwarf hamster, she doesn't chew hers either. It's really frustrating.

First, make sure they're not chewing on the cages. It can be fairly annoying and it can make their teeth uneven, causing more problems.
I find that dog biscuits help to grind down their teeth. You can get free ones from Petsmart at the cashier.
If you don't have that opportunity, you can use a toilet paper roll and stuff the inside with food. Seal the sides by pressing the paper inwards. They'll have to gnaw through the cardboard to get to the food. It's not as effective as dog biscuits though.
If you choose to use wood blocks, you can coat the wood with some yogurt. It can be sticky, so I don't really recommend it.
For my own hamster, I give her KAYTEE bars, so she has to chew and gnaw on the bar to get food.

They're pretty cheap and you can even get them at Target.
Hope this helps!
our hamsters never chewed on any of those. we looked for hard treats and just kept the woods sticks in the cage.
If thier nervious, scared,or mad they might.
try soaking it in apple juice. then drying it out.
Never heard of this because they naturally chew on wood which of course in turn grinds down their teeth, just a thought, try soaking wood in say sugar water or try different flavors and see if this helps
It may have had tooth problems.
Try those sticks with the seed and nuts attached.
Rodents and Cappiberras can be very stubborn. My bother's guinea pig (I should say, my mom's guinea pig) will only chew on certain wood, but it loves plastic. Try different things.
well, what i do is i put hard crunchy treats into my guinea pigs cage and then they eat them up, so then at night time when i put their house in they start chewing on it. for my gerbils and hamsters i just put toilet paper cardboard rolls into their cage and they emediatly start chewing on them. also try to buy knaw bones for your animal. small animals really like to chew on cardboard.
timothy hay is all that's needed to keep guinea pigs teeth trimmed down
have you tried penut butter? you don't necesarily need to cover the whole thing, but just the edges.or nutella (the chocolatey hazelnut stuff) is every rodent's favorite..
Hay Hay Hay! You must feed guinea pigs timothy hay. They should have access to it all day. Guinea pigs really don't chew on wood blocks. Hay keeps their back molars worn down and also aids in digestion.
my g.pigs dont care for them either i get them regular sticks from a tree like break it off the tree and toss it in! they chew the crap outta that! i also got them a piece of wood from the lumber store like 4''x4'' square flat slab and they chewed that too i give them hard veggies too if that helps my pigs are only 1yr and 5mths old so they're probably too young yet.good luck but do try fetching them a stick its free, worth a shot, give a big one! ;)
Usually they don't. They rarely work. Dog buscuts with no garlic are great though. they chew them up good and fast. (fast as in a day or two)
